Ripples of Change: Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of A Drop of Life

I am grateful to the 48,622 donors who have brought positive change to the lives of 5.2 million people.

First and foremost, providing clean water is fundamental to ensuring the health and quality of life for people. For the past 25 years, A Drop of Life has been active in many regions where the lack of safe drinking water has led to high risks of waterborne diseases and water pollution. By constructing wells, water purification facilities, and water treatment systems, we have been able to provide local residents with reliable sources of clean water, reducing the risk of water pollution and the spread of diseases.

Secondly, improving sanitation facilities is vital for promoting health and reducing the transmission of diseases. Many remote areas lack proper sanitation, leading to poor hygiene and the spread of disease. By building sanitation facilities, such as toilets and handwashing stations, we can provide a clean and healthy environment, reduce the spread of diseases, and enhance the quality of life for the local residents.

Moreover, education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty and improving people’s quality of life. Many children in impoverished areas lack educational opportunities, limiting their future employment prospects and socio-economic development. By providing educational resources, such as school constructions and training programs, we can help children in these poor regions receive a good education, raise their level of education, increase their future job opportunities, and improve their living conditions.

Combining the provision of clean water, sanitation facilities, and education, we can improve poverty, promote good health, enhance educational quality, and increase employment opportunities in remote mountainous regions. These initiatives will create better living conditions for local people, help them escape poverty, and contribute to the sustainable development of the region.

In 2023, A Drop of Life deepened its cleaning service projects for the elderly and solitary seniors in the local community, bringing numerous benefits to their health and environment. As people age, their physical functions gradually decline, and they may not be able to perform daily cleaning tasks. Through the professional cleaning by A Drop of Life volunteers, we can ensure their living environments are hygienic, reducing the risk of bacterial and viral infections and thus lowering the chance of illness. It also reduces environmental pollution and promotes good relationships among neighbors. By supporting and developing such services, we can create a healthier and more comfortable haven for the elderly.

Wishing everyone good health!

The year 2023 marked the 25th anniversary of A Drop of Life and it was a year when our activities, outreach, charity, and educational work could proceed more smoothly. A Drop of Life is dedicated to providing clean water, sanitation facilities, and educational improvements in South Asia, significantly enhancing the lives of the local people. Access to clean water sources and improved sanitation helps them stay away from diseases and lead healthy lives; the spread of education gives children the chance to change their destiny and lays a solid foundation for the future. The development of projects brings about employment opportunities, providing families with a stable income and helping them escape the clutches of poverty. These changes one by one realize the theme of A Drop of Life this year – Ripple of Change.

Furthermore, A Drop of Life has deepened its services for the elderly in Hong Kong. I have previously served as a community service volunteer, cleaning homes for the solitary elderly, from the outside in, restoring their living environment to a bright and tidy state, which improves their mood and naturally their health!

This year will be my sixth campaign, once again personally participating in A Drop of Life water-carrying battle, with more celebrities joining to raise the profile of the event. I believe that everyone’s little contribution can help more people understand the situation of those living without water. I hope to continue to impact lives with life, bit by bit, creating a ripple of change.

The world is always changing, and it changes quickly.

Sometimes it feels like we can’t even keep up with the pace.

Change is unpredictable and often uncontrollable,

But the one change we can control

Is choosing to help those in need,

Letting them experience a little change

Which can lead to a greater ripple of change.

Indeed, this change

Is not limited to the group being helped,

But more so, it embodies the willingness of everyone to give to others without expecting anything in return.

It’s just that simple and direct.

In 25 years, I believe we all have undergone many changes.

I hope what remains unchanged

Is your sincere and bright heart.

For the next 25 years,

Let us continue to join hands and walk together!

Believing that little drops can create ripples of change, this year I visited children with congenital heart disease with A Drop of Life team, hoping to bring them a bit of comfort.

Having congenital heart disease is hard enough, and for impoverished families, it adds to their burden. A person with this condition typically only has about 18 years to live and often requires one or more surgeries and lengthy medical examinations, which can have serious consequences if not treated in time.

Despite the challenges to their lives, these children show courage and strength, maintaining a positive and optimistic spirit, reminding me to cherish the preciousness of life. Facing financial difficulties, many families have not given up hope for treatment because they believe in the value of every little drop of life, which can provide support to help them overcome adversity.

My efforts may be small, but I still hope to create a ripple of change, to raise awareness, and to provide resources to help them face challenges. Connecting everyone’s efforts can change the future for these children.
